Wood Burning Appliance Insurance Inspection; WETT Level 1

What is a WETT Inspection? 

WETT is short for wood energy technology transfer. WETT inspections for wood burning fireplaces, chimneys, and stoves are conducted for a variety of reasons. Typically, these are done for insurance purposes, real estate transactions, or to investigate a concern with the operation of a system.

There are three different types of WETT inspections: Level 1 which is visual only, Level 2 - an accessible inspection, and Level 3 which is an invasive inspection.

WETT Level 1 inspections typically take around 1/2 hour to carry out and reports are issued within 48 hours after the inspection. The inspection consists of taking many measurements and photographs. A PDF report details areas of the installation(s) that meet or do not meet the requirements of the manufacturer's installation instructions and appropriate building and fire codes.

Pricing

There are only five home inspection companies in Calgary that are certified to offer WETT Level 1 inspections. Many claim to offer these but they are actually sub-contracting this service out to a third party. This results in you having to pay quite a bit more than what we charge. Most of these third parties charge $275 - $350 for a WETT Level 1 inspection.

When booked with a home inspection our price is $195 and as a standalone inspection we charge $295.

In addition to the cost savings, by offering this service direct we make things more convenient for home buyers and realtors because we do the inspection at the same time as the rest of the home inspection; no coordinating schedules with a third party are needed.
